Here I play the hymn on the piano:

Text

Here are slightly different lyrics than what is in the image above.  They come from the hymnal at our chapel:

1. Dear Guardian of Mary! dear nurse of her child!
Life’s ways are full weary, the desert is wild;
Bleak sands are all round us, no home can we see;
Sweet Spouse of our Lady! we lean upon thee.

2. For thou to the pilgrim art father and guide,
And Jesus and Mary felt safe at thy side;
Ah! blessed Saint Joseph, how safe should I be,
Sweet Spouse of our Lady! if thou wert with me.

3. O blessed Saint Joseph, how great was thy worth,
The one chosen shadow of God upon earth,
The father of Jesus! Ah, then wilt thou be,
Dear spouse of Our Lady, a father to me.

  1. Hi. I love this hymn. Unfortunately, the link to the music isn’t opening. Can you share it again? Thank you!

    1. Hi, you will need to have QuickTime installed on your computer for it to work. The MIDI is not mobile-friendly, I just discovered. I will work on solving that issue…maybe with SoundCloud. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! Let me know if you have further difficulties!

  2. This is the recording I remember from when I was growing up….and I’m currently making an album of much-loved, rarely-sung-any-more hymns to generate some much-needed income (and prove that, contrary to popular belief, hearing impaired people like myself CAN sing, albeit differently than everyone else). I don’t have a keyboard/piano in here, so can I use this? I’ve converted it on Audacity. Thanks!

    1. THANK YOU for asking first! All the recordings that I made are my own content, and since I offer these resources for free, please respect my decision to refuse your request. Please do not use my recordings for public or private sale. (It’s not a professional, clean recording anyway…it’s not high-quality enough to use on a CD in my opinion. Too much background “white noise” and a piano that isn’t in tune perfectly.)

      My advice would be to take the sheet music, and ask someone to play & record it for you. Thank you, and I wish you the best of luck recording your CD! It sounds like a wonderful project! I’d love to check it out when it is finished, and I will gladly consider sharing it with my readers! God bless!
